As we all know, the channel strip level indicator lights up when exceeding digital 0 dB. Clicking on the displayed value clears the field. When gain staging a mix, this can happen regularly. A fringe benefit of this function is that it clears the field even when the values have not been clipped.
So if you are monitoring your levels carefully, looking for peaks, frequent use of this function resets the field each time, allowing you to locate peaks in your track more easily.
I save myself a manual mouse click each time by assigning the function to the Zero key on my qwerty keyboard. The numeric keypad Zero key has been assigned to Stop since Logic 1. This is a recent addition to Logic and now acts as a toggle. Logic has long needed a way to momentarily switch off all channel strip processing to compare a track's processed and unprocessed state easily.
I have this assigned to Option Control Shift B. This function will simultaneously bypass all channel strip effects plug-ins and enable them the next time you invoke the same key command. This is a long and descriptive name for a prevalent need. That is, clicking a plug-in slot to open a software instrument for tweaking. I have this assigned to Command Option I for Instrument. Similar key commands are available to open and close audio effects plug-ins in the various channel strip slot positions.
So there you have it, my most commonly used custom key command assignments for unassigned functions. I have several others, but these came to mind as my most often used. Makes no difference Feel free to attach your project here the one with the broken track so one of us can have a look.
So, I think I know what was causing the problem. The channel was inside a summing stack. If I move it outside the stack, everything works fine. The workaround sadly won't do it for me, as I want to control various plugins within a channel Drishti, the very interesting post you unearthed actually provides with 3 totally different workarounds:.
After doing this you'll see the external assignment in the Smart Controls inspector change to "Unassigned", but this is another bug because the assignment will continue to work.
When you're done with your assignments you can create your Track Stack and the assignment won't be lost. Now it should fetch midi from the controller again. This technique can be handy to have controls over all your instruments inside a stack or map controls from different instruments to a single knob.
Which exactly doesn't work for you? Controlling severtal plugins of a given track all at once with one smart control should work in all 3 solutions it's only a matter of mapping several parameters to the same smart control , and in case you would want to control various plugings across several subtracks in the stack, I would guess Cello's solution should work as well again it's the matter of mapping the smart control to more than one parameter.
Logic Pro X Jordis workaround doesn't work for me, because in a nearly finished project I'll have around tracks. I don't want to change stuff arounf, just when I want to control another track.
